Fat Injection

What is fat injection?

Body fat makes excellent soft tissue filler material and is sometimes a suitable alternative to synthetic filler products. Fat injection transfers fat from one part of the body to another. Fat injections can be used to recontour the face, diminish frown lines, crow’s feet and nasolabial folds (smile lines), as well as give definition to areas like the cheeks and chin. They can also be used to fill out depressed scarred areas on any part of the body.

Is fat injection right for me?

Always talk to your surgeon before deciding whether fat injection is appropriate for you. The procedure may be a good option if you are seeking an improvement in the contour of your face or other parts of your body. Your own fat provides a natural, non-allergenic alternative to fillers. It’s important to note that fat grafting is a longer process as it’s done in two parts: the “harvesting,” or removal of fat from one area of the body, and the injection of the fat into another area.  It’s a more complicated procedure than an injection of dermal fillers.  Facial fat transfer is typically done under local anaesthetic and involves only a small amount of fat.

Potential complications

All surgery comes with some degree of risk. For example, bleeding and infection are possible. Fortunately, significant complications following fat injections are usually infrequent. Don’t worry, your surgeon will fully explain potential complications during the consultation process and commit to support you during your recovery period.

SURGERY & RECOVERY

During surgery

Your time in surgery may vary according to your individual needs and the specifics of the procedures being performed. Your surgeon will fully explain all details to you during consultation.

Recovery

One of the most important reasons for choosing a reputable surgeon is knowing they will be by your side throughout the recovery process, ready to reassure and support you at every stage. Ask your surgeon what the recovery process will involve for you.
