40TH ANNUAL ASAPS CONFERENCE​

It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the cultural capital of Australia, Melbourne, the city where it all began 40 years ago, to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the ASAPS Annual Conference.

THE THEME – Excellence in Cosmetic Surgery

This year’s conference is all about “excellence in Cosmetic Surgery” and will combine content rich scientific sessions alongside business focused sessions ideal for you and your practice staff.

THE CELEBRATIONS

The welcome reception and gala dinner will be spectacular as we celebrate the 40th Anniversary. The Production House Events will coordinate the meeting with Suzanne Ali and we have all come to expect outstanding events and seamless organisation associated with this combination.

THE FOCUS

This year we are fortunate to have excellent speakers who will share their expertise in Breast and Body Surgery, Neck, Eyelid and Facial surgery. At this year’s meeting we have the Inaugural RACS Visiting Professor.

LOCAL CONTRIBUTIONS

There is a vast amount of untapped experience and knowledge within our membership base. We encourage you to share your clinical and/or research expertise that will contribute significantly to the meeting.

For those uncertain about how to start presenting, there are 2 simple, formats that can be used

  1. 5 or 10 slides in a row (10 mins)
  2. Petcha Kutcha/ STOCS ( 20 slides in 6 min 40 Sec)

The Petcha Kutcha/ Short Talks on Cosmetic Surgery (STOCS) sessions include 20 slides in 20 second auto forward (6 mins 40 second duration).

BUSINESS MANAGEMENT SESSIONS – NEW

Based on the feedback we received last year, we are introducing Business Management Sessions that will be of use to both Plastic Surgeons and Practice Managers. Delegates are encouraged to submit case studies and business medical scenarios focusing on budgets, business plans, updated policies or procedures and other potential challenges in your practice for discussion.

PRACTICE MANAGERS SESSIONS

The practice management sessions will involve sessions specifically designed for your staff. This year’s focus will include; Practice Management, HR issues, Social Media and Marketing tips, Patient Management and Customer Satisfaction and various other topics will be covered. These sessions are designed to be highly interactive and the Practice Staff will be encouraged to submit examples.

We look forward to welcoming you to what is undoubtedly going to be the highlight in the Australasian Plastic Surgery calendar. We hope you all take advantage of the strong business and practice management program and bring your staff and we look forward to seeing you in Melbourne.

Scientific Program

Keynote Speakers

DR WILLIAM ADAMS JR. – Inaugural RACS Visiting Professor, Dallas, USA

Dr. Adams maintains a private practice in plastic surgery in Dallas, TX. In addition, he is an Associate Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, where he is the program director of the Aesthetic Fellowship.

He received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University and his medical degree at Vanderbilt University Medical School. He completed both his general surgery and plastic surgery residency training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

Dr. Adams is recognized for his expertise in breast surgery and breast implant technology. He has published >250 papers and numerous book chapters, and served as co-editor for the Breast Augmentation Supplement for the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is the author of the world’s only breast augmentation textbook and atlas.

He has presented and performed live surgery breast augmentation at many plastic surgery meetings/ symposia and educational forums both nationally and internationally.

Over the past 15 years he has served as an advisor to multiple plastic surgery industry partners for R&D, product refinement and evaluation.

He is the founder, President, and Chief Medical Officer of The Plastic Surgery Channel the world’s 1st and only media company owned and operated by plastic surgeons. The plastic surgery channel specializes in doctor delivered messaging allowing credible surgeons to connect with their patients and community via high quality video.

Dr. Adams is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He is active member of many organizations including the American Society of Plastic and Surgeons (ASPS), the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), and the and Aesthetic Society Education and Research Foundation. He is past president for ASERF, and a board member of American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), and current ASAPS program chair.

DR GIOVANNI BOTTI, Lake Garda, Italy

Giovanni Botti, MD is from Salò, Lake Garda, Italy and is the main surgeon of Villa Bella Clinic. He is a Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Verona, a post he has held since 2002.

Dr Botti has been an invited speaker at many aesthetic surgery conferences in more than 30 countries. He performed demonstrative surgical operations in various hospitals worldwide. He he has lectured at post-graduate aesthetic plastic surgery classes conducted by various Universities both in Italy and in many other countries. He is the author of 71 scientific articles, numerous book chapters and four text books in Aesthetic Surgery.

He was the first President of the Italian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (AICPE), of which he is still the honorary President. He is an honorary member of numerous national plastic surgery societies. He is the National Secretary of ISAPS for Italy and an ISAPS travelling professor. Perhaps even more important, he loves his job!

DR DANIEL LABBÉ, Paris, France

Dr Daniel Labbé M.D. practices Aesthetic, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Caen Saint-Martin Private Hospital. He graduated in Medicine at the University of West Paris. He is a former resident at the Caen Univ Hospital.

His main interests are

  • Facial paralysis
  • Face and Neck lift
  • Craniofacial surgery
  • Vascular Malformations

Dr Daniel Labbé MD’s scientific research is focused on the anatomy of the head and neck, the temporal muscle, the platysma muscle, osteogenic distraction and sclerosing agents in vascular malformations.

He has written 51 articles and 4 chapters in books. He has lectured at numerous conferences on Facial paralysis both nationally and internationally (Belgium, Brazil, Chile, England , Italy, Israel , Lebanon , Mexico, Uzbekistan , Spain, Tunisia , USA ). He has performed live surgery demonstration in many cities throughout France: Paris, Marseille , Strasbourg, Tours , and abroad Belgium, Brazil, Sweden, Switzerland, Tunisia. He has produced 2 teaching DVDs.

He is an active member of several national an international scientific societies.

DR LORNE ROSENFIELD, California, USA

Dr. Rosenfield was educated in Canada and the US and is Board certified in both general surgery and plastic and reconstructive surgery. He has been in private practice in Burlingame, California for over 30 years.

Dr. Rosenfield conducts teaching courses for and delivers lectures to his fellow plastic surgeons nationally and internationally on innovative techniques in aesthetic surgery. He is a Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at both UCSF and Stanford University Medical Centers and Traveling Professor for both the American ASAPS the International Society of Aesthetic Surgeons (ISAPS).

He is also actively engaged in clinical research and publishes regularly on aesthetic surgery in the most prominent journals and texts in plastic surgery. Dr. Rosenfield is the Chairman of both the Safety and Teaching Course Committees for ASAPS. He continues to be peer selected as a “Best Doctor” as well as “Top Doctor” in plastic surgery (an honor bestowed upon only 3% of all surgeons in America).

Dr. Rosenfield prides himself in never having advertised for business, but rather building his practice the old fashioned way: one patient at a time. And, with equal pride, Dr. Rosenfield has a very full family life, with four children and one original wife.

Please note there will be no reductions in the registration fee if you choose not to attend one or both of these functions. Abstracts

There is a vast amount of untapped experience and knowledge within our membership base and we encourage you to share your wisdom, research and findings and submit abstracts which will potentially enhance the topics our guests are presenting. These session have become both entertaining and informative and we look forward to your contribution.

Important deadlines

26 June – Abstract submissions deadline (extended)
28 July – Successful authors will be notified out outcome

Submission Guidelines

  • All presentations will be digital in either PowerPoint or Keynote.
  • Speakers will be required to bring their presentations on CD/DVD, or USB stick with them to the conference.
  • Your presentation must be given to the audio visual team 4 hours prior to the session. It is disruptive to be changing computer connections at the lectern.
  • All free papers are limited to 7 minutes. The duration of the talk will be enforced and you should practice and time your talk to ensure it is completed within this time frame.
  • Companies that are either sponsoring or exhibiting are limited to one (1) abstract submission. Independent authors do not have a maximum number of submissions allowed.
  • Abstract submissions are not open to exhibiting companies or other industry companies for the 2017 event.

Abstract Preparation

In previous meetings we have been able to include most submitted presentations however the number of papers submitted has increased and we are reducing the number of free papers accepted. This year we will be much stricter on the acceptance of papers.

You will be required to indicate your disclosures and whether the presentation is industry supported or initiated. Submitted abstracts will be scrutinised.

Papers not complying with this requirement will not be accepted or removed from the program if not complying.

Organise the abstract as follows:

  • Disclosures
  • Aim/purpose (preferably one sentence)
  • Introduction
  • Method
  • Results
  • Conclusions (It is not satisfactory to state “The results will be discussed”)

Cancellation Policy

Important Registration Cancellation Deadlines

Registration cancellations received up to 6 September 2017 will receive a full refund, less $300.00 administration fee. No refunds will be given for registration cancellations received after 6 September 2017. As an alternative to cancellation, registrations may be transferred to another person (for the same registration category) before 22 September 2017 without receiving any extra cost penalty.

All fees are in Australian dollars inclusive of GST.

The members of the ASAPS Council and The Production House Events do not accept any liability for any losses incurred pre, post or during the Conference due to unforeseen cancellation or postponement. In the event of the Conference being cancelled, no refunds will be issued. All available funds will be credited towards a future Conference held by ASAPS.

CME Activity

This educational activity has been approved in the RACS CPD Program. Fellows who participate can claim one point per hour in Maintenance of Knowledge & Skills. Participation in this activity will be populated into your RACS CPD Online.

ISAPS Education Council

This program has been reviewed by the Educational Council and is officially Endorsed by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS).  Endorsement is not approval for Continuing Medical Education (CME) credit. The organizers may at their discretion provide separate CME credit.

ACN Endorsement

This conference is endorsed by ACN according to our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Endorsed Course Standards. It has been allocated 18 CPD hours according to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia – Continuing Professional Development Standard.
