Information on QUT MERF:

The Medical Engineering Research Facility (MERF) supports medical devices research and development cycle in a state-of-the-art QUT facility. QUT MERF enables cutting-edge research, and also supports health research advances at the Prince Charles Hospital

MERF have capabilities for preclinical studies, including post-explantation evaluation, and facilities for hands-on skills training for surgeons, theatre staff and sales personnel.

Backed by rigorous academic research from the Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation, MERF provides preclinical research models in small and large animals for the assessment of new biomaterials, medical devices, implants and surgical techniques. We have a strong focus on applications in orthopaedics, but our capabilities extend to all clinical fields.

MERF provides a responsive service in a GLP-accredited environment, with well-established animal and cadaver research, and training models. Their dedicated team comprises international experts and includes surgeons, veterinary scientists and a quality assurance personnel.

If you are driving, it is imperative to allow sufficient time to find parking at QUT MERF prior to the workshop commencing at 8.00am.

Buses

Hotel X BRISBANE to QUT MERF – 22 June, Morning

On the morning of the workshop, a bus will pick up delegates from the Hotel X Brisbane foyer and drop off at QUT MERF. Parking is very limited at QUT MERF as it is a university so catching the bus is recommended.
 

Those staying at the Hotel X Brisbane will be required to put their luggage on the bus in the morning as the bus will not return to Hotel X. Luggage will be removed upon arrival at QUT MERF and cannot be stored on the bus during the day. Those continuing to the Non-Surgical Symposium will be transported by bus to the Gold Coast at the conclusion at the event.

Dr Andrew Clark

Dr. Andrew Clark

Dr. Andrew Clark is both an internationally published scientific author and experienced medical doctor who has been exclusively practicing cosmetic medicine for over 11 years. 

Graduating with Honours from the University of Tasmania Medical School in 2000, Dr Clark has worked as a Surgical and Emergency Department Registrar in various hospitals across Tasmania, Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia.

Dr Clark has worked alongside a number of leading plastic surgeons, cosmetic physicians and professors in Australia, the United States and the Netherlands. In addition to his medical degree, Dr Clark has also earned his PhD in the fields of skin and muscle biochemistry, and physiology from the University of Tasmania in 2005. 

Recently selected as one of the ‘Ultimate 100 Global Aesthetic Leaders” of 2019,  Dr Clark runs two busy cosmetic medicine clinics in Perth Western Australia and regularly shares his extensive knowledge and experience in Aesthetic Medicine in his roles as a Key Opinion Leader and Lecturer for several major dermal filler and cosmetic laser companies.

Dr Niamh Corduff

Dr Niamh Corduff is the clinical director of the Cosmetic Revitalisation Clinic, Geelong and has been practicing as a Specialist Plastic Surgeon in private practice for 28 years. 

She qualified from Charing Cross Medical School, the University of London in 1984 and subsequently did her basic surgical training in the UK before emigrating to Australia in 1988. Niamh then completed her Plastic Surgery training in Australia in 1993 obtaining the FRACS. Since then, her practice has been based in Geelong, Victoria with special interests in breast surgery and non-surgical revitalisation.  

Niamh is currently a member of the following organisations:

  • Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS) President 2008-2010
  • Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons Honorary membership
  • Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons 

In 2004 Niamh became aware of a need from her patients to provide non-surgical options to face lifts for those who were seeking improvement in their facial appearance but did not want the radical approach of surgical intervention. She opened the Cosmetic Refinement Clinic, one of the first non-surgical clinics in Victoria and the first in Geelong. Niamh’s principal approach has always been a conservative one; not focusing on youthful features but helping her patients look healthy and well for their age. She applies her surgical anatomical knowledge to achieve natural looking outcomes.  

Niamh enjoys educating others and is an international speaker at various educational forums, seminars and conferences for doctors and other health professionals presenting on cosmetic injectables. In 2015 Niamh was appointed as a consultant to Merz.  She lectures and trains internationally on their behalf.

Niamh currently serves on the Medical Advisory Board of Establishment Labs (Motiva breast implant manufacturer).

Dr Simone Doreian

Dr Simone Doreian MBBS (Hons), FCPCA, FRACGP, DRANZCOG, Cosmetic Physician

Dr Simone Doreian holds a fellowship in cosmetic medicine, and a dual specialist degree in Family Medicine.

Dr Doreian specialises in injectables and non-surgical rejuvenation, with a focus on balanced and natural results.

Since 2004 she has been a consultant physician in Aesthetic Medicine, and is director of the Dr Simone Doreian Private Clinic in Melbourne, Australia.

A passionate and hands-on medical educator of anatomy, safety, facial assessment and injectables, she is frequently invited to share her knowledge and techniques as a key opinion leader at industry and independent international conferences, masterclasses and workshops.

Dr Sarah Hart

Dr Sarah Hart

Dr Sarah Hart graduated MBChB from Otago University in 1994. She has been practicing Cosmetic Medicine since 2002. After initial training in Psychiatry, she qualified as a member of the New Zealand Society of Cosmetic Medicine in 2006. She now serves on the NZSCM Executive and Education Board as Censor and Education Faculty member.

She has been an Allergan Advisory Board member since 2007. She lectures on the use of dermal filler and botulinum toxin on the international stage and trains her colleagues across Australasia in facial rejuvenation techniques. Dr Hart has a particular interest in injectables safety and is a published author on this topic.

Dr John Holbrook

Dr John Holbrook studied medicine at the University of Sydney. Originally from the United States he came to Sydney to get a Master’s in International Public Health and felt in love with Sydney. He worked at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital as a part of Multiple specialist teams including dermatology and head and neck surgery.

Dr Holbrook specialises in minimally invasive facial aesthetics and believes in a patient centred approach focusing on the unique aesthetic of each individual and hot to best highlight those facial characteristics which define the aesthetic of each patient.

He is a member of the Australasian College of Aesthetic Medicine (ACAM). He completed training with Merz, Galderma and Allergan in their individual academies for facial injectables as well as with the Derma Medical.

Dr. Krishan Mohan Kapoor is a Plastic Surgeon and Hair Transplant Surgeon in Sector 33-D, Chandigarh and has an experience of 17 years in these fields and he practices at Anticlock Medispa.

Dr Frank Lin

Dr. Frank Lin

Dr Frank Lin is a Specialist Plastic Surgeon and founder of Eastern Plastic Surgery and EST Clinic in Melbourne, Australia.

Dr Lin specialises in facial aesthetic surgery and injectable treatments, with a special interest in the treatment of Asian patients. He is a regular speaker at international conferences, and is a key opinion leader in injectable and minimally invasive aesthetic treatments. He has also been involved in numerous clinical trials for global pharmaceutical and medical devices companies.

Dr Lin currently serves on the Board of the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS) and the Membership Committee of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ISAPS) representing Australia. 

Dr Lin is an adjunct senior lecturer at Monash University, and is involved in undergraduate and specialty training at Melbourne and Monash Universities.

A/Prof Magnusson (FRACS), Founder and Medical Director of Allure Clinic, is one of Australia's leading Specialist Plastic Surgeons. A/Prof Magnusson is recognised in Australia and internationally for his contributions to plastic surgery education and research. He has an academic attachment to Griffith University driving ongoing research and teaching. A/Prof Magnusson is a member and past President of the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, Editorial Board member of the Aesthetic Surgery Journal and Aesthetic Section Editor for the Australasian Journal of Plastic Surgery. 

A/Prof Mark Magnusson has a special interest in facial rejuvenation using non-surgical and surgical treatment modalities. He is an Anatomy Tutor for the Melbourne Advanced Facial Anatomy Course (MAFAC) an Instructor on the ASAPS Anatomical Dissection and Cosmetic Procedures Workshop).

As well as his role as Founder and Medical Director of Allure Clinic, A/Prof Mark Magnusson is also a consultant Plastic Surgeon in Toowoomba and on the Gold Coast where he performs the broad range of predominantly aesthetic facial, breast and body surgical procedures.

Dr. Tim Papadopoulos, BSc, MBBS, FRACS (Gen.), FRACS (Plast.)

HEAD OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PLASTIC AND RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY AT WESTMEAD PRIVATE HOSPITAL.

Dr. Tim attended Monash University in Melbourne, achieving honours and distinctions in obtaining his Bachelor of Science Degree (BSc). He continued on to graduate from the Monash University Faculty of Medicine, obtaining an MBBS in 1987. Dr. Tim then pursued postgraduate training in General Surgery at the Austin and Repatriation Medical Centre , gaining Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 1998. Dr. Tim then undertook further training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Sydney and obtained the FRACS in Plastic Surgery in 2002. That same year he completed subspecialty training by attaining Fellowships in both Cosmetic Surgery and Hand Surgery. Dr. Tim is one of a select group of surgeons in Australia who is a dual diplomate with subspecialty training.

Dr. Tim has been practicing the art of plastic surgery since 2003 and has served as Past President of the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS AU), and on many international committees including the Educational Sub-Committee for the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) and as Regional Vice-Chair for Australasia for the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS US). He is also a Reviewer and Commentator in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal (ASJ), a peer-reviewed international journal focusing on scientific developments and clinical techniques in aesthetic surgery. 

Dr. Tim is presently in private practice in Sydney where his three clinics are all equipped with state-of-the-art technology. While Dr. Tim's medical school honours and board certifications attest to his knowledge, his surgical skill and dedication to patient care are the basis of his greatest recognition. A frequent lecturer and speaker both nationally and internationally, he has appeared on radio shows, and is regularly consulted and quoted in the print media.

Naveen Somia PhD., FRACS is a registered and highly regarded Plastic Surgeon and Past President of ASAPS, with over 17 years of surgical and non-surgical expertise. Trained in Plastic Surgery in both Melbourne and Sydney, Dr Somia underwent additional training in Cosmetic Surgery in the USA, where he completed a PhD in eyelid reanimation and facial nerve paralysis. As Scientific Convenor of the Non-Surgical Symposium for 5 years, Dr Somia has an eye for emerging technology and ground-breaking innovation in the surgical and non-surgical sector; which he then delivers to attendees of the ASAPS Non-Surgical Symposium via the education program.

Anatomy lectures and videos

FOR EACH POST:

  1. The instructor performs the dissection of the dedicated location on one hemiface. Then, time permitting, dissection is performed by the attendees on the other hemiface and neck.
  2. Each participant injects in that respective region under supervision and guidance by an expert

  1. Combination of fresh cadaver dissections, hands-on as well as live demonstrations on basic and advanced techniques
  2. Focus on levels, zones and plans for technical practice purposes
    1. Facial ageing
    2. Facial “high risk” and “low risk” zones
    3. Facial layers
    4. Muscles
    5. Fatty tissues (superficial and deep fat compartments)
    6. Relationship to bone and dermo-epidermic level
    7. Danger to important structures, mainly the facial artery and venous systems and nerves
