Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS) & New Zealand Association of Plastic Surgeons (NZAPS) Combined Conference 2018

The ASAPS Board is excited to be hosting its Annual Conference in Auckland, New Zealand from 2-5 August.

The 2018 Annual Conference will be held alongside the NZAPS Conference, providing attendees with a comprehensive scientific program that will cover the full breadth of the cosmetic and reconstructive surgery fields.

New Zealand will provide a stunning backdrop for our 2018 Annual Conference.

Temperatures will be mild in Auckland, so it’s the perfect time of year to hike up Rangitoto – a dormant volcanic island – or visit the wild-west coast beaches. Sampling the delights of vineyard restaurants on Waiheke Island, is not to be missed, all within a 30 minute ferry ride from downtown Auckland.

It’s also a great time of the year to explore the historic gold mining and Kauri logging towns of the Coromandel and its glorious beaches, free from the summertime crowds.

Winter is when New Zealand’s mountains come alive with skiers and snowboarders. In Queenstown and Wanaka, there are four world-class ski fields within an hour and a half of each other. The ASAPS Annual Conference is held exclusively for Specialist Plastic Surgeons and their practice staff.


Building on the theme of 2017’s Conference, the 2018 ASAPS & NZAPS combined Conference will provide attendees with the very latest tools, techniques and thoughts in the arena of cosmetic and plastic surgery so that surgeons and their practice staff can emulate excellence in all they do and say.

There will be something on offer for everyone with the scientific program covering both aesthetic and cosmetic issues as well as reconstructive procedures and research topics.


Running in parallel with the conference will be a business stream aimed at equipping Practice Managers with the tools and information to grow and sustain their practices.

Topics that will be covered include HR issues, social media and marketing tips, ideas and advice on patient management and increasing customer satisfaction, to name just a few.

Dr Jay Calvert

RACS Visiting Speaker

Dr Jay Calvert is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who graduated from Cornell University Medical College. He has practices in Beverly Hills and Newport Beach with 23 years of experience. He has a special focus on rhinoplasty, secondary rhinoplasty, and nasal reconstruction.

He performs facelifts and complex breast surgery, as well, and is well-versed in all areas of plastic surgery. Dr Calvert has authored many publications and is an international invited speaker.

Dr Emmanuel Delay

Dr Emmanuel Delay has been a Specialist Surgeon in Reconstructive and Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in Lyon, France since 1991. He was trained in Lyon, France at the University Hospital of Lyon, he is a former intern of the Hospitals of Lyon, former Head of Clinic Assistant of the Hospitals of Lyon, at the St-Luc Hospital, and the Léon Bérard Center), in Toulouse (Rangueil Hospital), in Belgium in Brussels, and in the USA.
Dr Delay is a member of the French Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (SOFCPRE), of the French Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (SOFCEP), of the American Society of Plastic Surgery (American Society of Plastic Surgeons, ASPS), the International Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (IPRAS), the International Society of Aesthetic Surgery (ISAPS), and founding member of the ISPRES (International Society of Plastic Regenerative Surgery).

In his time, Dr Delay has authored 200 scientific publications, scientific articles, books (in French, English, Italian and Portuguese) or book chapters, and co-authored the report of the French Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. His practice is dominated to breast prostheses and he regularly speaks at national and international conferences.

Dr Delay shares his time between surgery, teaching and research. His main areas of interest in relation to research are breasts, facial aesthetics, oncology, fat transfer, and stem cells. His research has led to significant advances over the last twenty years, particularly in the areas of cosmetic surgery and cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery. This work enabled him to obtain recognition from the profession, and he had the great honour of being elected the 2017 President of the French Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, which constitutes as prestigious recognition for his contribution to the specialty of plastic surgery.

Dr Nimrod Friedman

Dr Nimrod Friedman is board certified plastic surgeon and a member of IPRAS, ISPS & ISAPS. His private clinic is based in Tel Aviv, Israel and Dr Friedman’s main fields of interest are Aesthetic Breast Surgery, Facial Rejuvenation and Body Contouring, both through surgeries, minimally invasive and non-invasive techniques.

Dr Nimrod Friedman Graduated medical school with honors and distinction and receive several awards for outstanding academic achievements.

Dr Nimrod Friedman is a consultant and KOL for several international companies and a frequent lecturer at meetings and workshops around the world.

Dr Foad Nahai, MD FACS FRCS (Hon) FRCST (Hon)

RACS Visiting Speaker

Dr Foad Nahai is editor in chief of Aesthetic Surgery Journal, Maurice J Jurkiewicz chair in Plastic Surgery and professor of Surgery at Emory University. He practices at the Emory Aesthetic Center in Atlanta Georgia USA.

He is internationally recognized as an innovator in the field of plastic surgery where he has developed and refined many procedures. He has co-authored 11 books and published over 215 scientific articles on all aspects of plastic surgery. The latest book he authored and edited, published in 2011, is the second edition of his three-volume text entitled The Art of Aesthetic Surgery.

Dr Nahai is a past President of the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities (AAAASF), a past president of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), past president of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), past chair of the Plastic surgery Research Council and has served as a director of the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He was recently presented with Honorary Fellowship in the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

He is listed in the “Best Doctors in America”, the “Best Doctors in the U.S.”, Town & Country Magazine, Good Housekeeping, More Magazine and Atlanta Magazine as one of the country’s top plastic surgeons. He has been listed in W Magazine as one of the top Plastic Surgeons in the world. Dr Nahai is in demand internationally to speak at plastic surgery meetings and to demonstrate surgical procedures.

His primary area of expertise is in face, neck and eyelid surgery where he has made significant contributions to the advancement of the art and science of Facial Rejuvenation. Additional areas of experience include injectables, breast reconstruction, breast surgery, resurfacing. He is a strong advocate of evidence-based medicine (EBM) both in his own clinical practice and within the Aesthetic Surgery Journal for the articles selected for publication where he helped initiate the EBM HUB section that is dedicated to educating plastic surgeons about the benchmarks, challenges, and nuances of EBM. Dr Nahai has presented on and champions research that promotes and advances patient safety and positive outcomes through his work with the AAAASF.

Fat Grafting

Fat grafting to the breast has been proven to be beneficial in cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery. Recent scientific advances in understanding fat biology and development of cutting-edge fat harvesting and processing technology have ensured excellent outcomes.

Professor Kotaro Yoshimura

Professor and Chairman of the Department of Plastic Surgery at Jichi Medical University, Japan.

Prof Yoshimura’s research interests cover adipose stem cells and regenerative medicine. He has published more than 150 full articles and many textbook chapters. He has received a number of awards including the 38th Maliniac Lecturer in 2016 by American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

Dr Emmanuel Delay

Dr Delay is a Plastic Surgeon in Lyon, France and the current President of the French Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (SOFCPRE). He is a pioneer of Breast Lipomodelling, a procedure that he started in 1998.

Dr Delay is the author of more than 200 scientific articles and book chapters many of them on fat grafting.

Dr Delay divides his time between Reconstructive Surgery at the hospital (Centre Léon Bérard, Lyon), education (University of Lyon), research (Stem cells Research), and his professional activity in private practice (Clinique Charcot) mostly dedicated to Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

Abstracts are invited from Consultants, Surgical Trainees and Aspirants. There is a vast amount of untapped experience and knowledge within our membership base and we encourage you to share your wisdom, research and findings by submitting abstracts which will potentially enhance the topics our guests are presenting. These sessions have become both entertaining and informative, we look forward to your contribution. Please note, that in previous meetings we have been able to include most of submitted presentations, however the number of papers submitted has increased each year and we are unable to accept all of the free papers offered.

Submissions must conform to the Abstract Preparation Guidelines as outlined below. Abstracts which do not comply with the rules of submission or layout guidelines, will be declined and returned to the author. Abstracts without results (or with “results pending”, “results to be discussed” or similar) will not be considered for presentation.

Presentations will be selected on the basis of scientific merit, clinical merit and topicality. There may be only one presenting author, but multiple authors may be listed on the submission. Authors must disclose if their abstract has been previously submitted, published or presented. You will be required to indicate your disclosures and whether the presentation is industry supported or initiated. Where applicable, all studies must have been approved by institutional committees on ethics of experimental and human/animal investigations.

Submission of an abstract acknowledges your acceptance for the abstract to be published in all printed material of the 2018 ASAPS / NZAPS meeting. Only abstracts from authors who have paid their registration fees by 30 June 2018 will be scheduled for presentation and included in the conference handbook.

Oral Presentations 

ASAPS and NZAPS Full Members / FRACS equivalent 
Oral presentations are usually 15 minutes or as appropriate for the programme.
All other authors 
Oral presentations are 7 minutes and will be scheduled on the morning of Sunday, 5 August during the NZAPS Research Session.
Unfortunately there is no availability for research posters this year.
There will be a prize for Best Registrar Presentation and Best Registrar Presentation 2nd Place for the NZAPS Research Session.

Audiovisual Equipment 

Each lecture room will be equipped for the presentation of PowerPoint slides and include a data projector, laptop, lectern and microphone. Multimedia clips should be embedded in your slides. Other audiovisual aids, such as overhead projectors, are not available.

All presentations must be digital in either PowerPoint or Keynote. Speakers will be required to bring their presentations on a USB stick with them to the conference. Your presentation must be given to the audio visual team at least four (4) hours prior to the start of the session in which you are presenting. It is disruptive to be changing computer connections at the lectern so presenting on your own laptop is not permitted.


All abstracts are to be submitted via the on-line submission process on the conference website. Submission by email, fax or post will not be accepted.
Do NOT include symbols, tables, pictures or diagrams within the ‘content’ of your abstract.

Selection and Notification

All abstracts will be reviewed by members of the Joint Scientific Meeting Committee.Presenting authors will be notified by Thursday, 31 May 2018 regarding the status of their abstract. All presenters will be required to register for the conference by Saturday, 30 June 2018 and pay the appropriate registration fee. All presenters also need to meet their own travel and accommodation costs.

Important Registration Cancellation Deadlines

Registration cancellations received up to and including 21 June 2018 will receive a full refund, less $300.00 administration fee. No refunds will be given for registration cancellations received after 21 June 2018 . As an alternative to cancellation, registrations may be transferred to another person (for the same registration category) before 5 July 2018 without receiving any extra cost penalty.

The members of the ASAPS/NZAPS Council and The Production House Events do not accept any liability for any losses incurred pre, post or during the Conference due to unforeseen cancellation or postponement. In the event of the Conference being cancelled, no refunds will be issued. All available funds will be credited towards a future Conference held by ASAPS/NZAPS.

Fees & GST

All fees are listed in Australian ($AUD) dollars excluding GST.  New Zealand GST may be applicable for New Zealand participants.  However, if you are registered for GST in NZ and are attending the conference for the purpose of your taxable activity, it is agreed that section 8(4) of the Goods and Service Tax Act 1985 does not apply. Therefore, no NZ GST will apply.



This educational activity has been approved in the RACS CPD Program. Fellows who participate can claim one point per hour in Maintenance of Knowledge & Skills. Participation in this activity will be populated into your RACS CPD Online.
